Joe Frank Harris, Jr

Owner/Attorney

JOE FRANK HARRIS, JR. has practiced law for more than 34 years. During this time, he has represented clients in almost every area of law. Joe, and his wife, Brooke, have a son and daughter, both UGA graduates, and attend Crosspoint City Church.

All areas of law fit together, and every client’s problem touches many, if not all, of them.

BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

The basis of a free society is a hard-working capitalistic system and Joe is passionate about defending its core component: business. Joe began his career as a banking and securities associate at a large firm in Atlanta. Upon returning home to Cartersville, he became deeply involved with the business community, leading the NW Georgia Aflac Regional Sales team, representing the Etowah Area Consolidated Housing Authority, and eventually leading the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce and teaching business law at Georgia Highlands College. After many years in business, he returned to law in Cartersville. He has gone on to coach countless businessmen through many of the legal aspects of a business lifecycle, including:

  • New Business: Prospective business owners count on Joe for partnerships,  incorporation, Limited Liability Companies, and tradename registration. Seasoned businesses partner with Joe for various legal services such as contract drafting, contract review, and succession planning.
  • Business Sales: When it’s time to expand or sell, business owners count on Joe to negotiate multi-million dollar agreements.
  • Real Estate: For Real Estate professionals, Joe has researched real estate titles, conducted home closings, re-zoned property, assisted with evictions as well as drafted and enforced many commercial leases. He also holds Georgia real estate and insurance licenses.
  • Banking and Finance: The Financial industry has depended on Joe to negotiate debts, property foreclosures, and handle bankruptcy issues.

ESTATE PLANNING AND PROBATE EXPERIENCE

Joe has helped hundreds of individuals prepare their wills and plan around many different family challenges and personalities. He had to defend and assist widows when creditors or step-children have attacked.

Learn to do what is good. Seek justice. Correct the oppressor. Defend the rights of the fatherless. Plead the widow’s cause.
Isaiah 1:17 HCSB

Probate can easily lead to the courtroom, but the best way to avoid huge challenges is to teach everyone involved how the probate system works, build bridges, and help grieving individuals reach a consensus. Joe’s experience in tough situations helps his clients avoid challenges in the future. Individuals must establish a clear plan, explain their plan to their families, and set clear expectations of teamwork when they pass. A well-thought-out plan and setting expectations is the best way to prevent stress, anxiety, and strife for you and your loved ones.

LITIGATION EXPERIENCE

Our country’s forefathers based our constitutional legal system on the right to trial by jury. Because of this, courtroom experience is essential to truly understanding not just our laws but our legal system. Representing a vast and varied array of clients in the courtroom has given Joe a deep appreciation and understanding of our laws and how various areas can intersect and apply in a single case.  While serving as a court-appointed Public Defender, he represented defendants accused of murder, rape, DUI, drugs, and assault, to name a few. In private practice, Joe has argued cases involving medical malpractice, divorce, landline issues, debt collections, and disputed wills. He relies on this invaluable experience to not only defend his clients rigorously in the courtroom but to also coach his clients on how to properly plan to prevent lawsuits and avoid going to court.
